Welcoming Landlord Program

Vancouver Skyline
Why do we need a housing network?

Market-value housing is simply out of reach for many. Individuals and families arriving in B.C. often do not have housing or employment references in Canada making their housing search even more difficult. Newly arriving individuals and families are not eligible for BC Housing or other subsidized housing options.

The Welcoming Landlord Housing Program aims to bridge this gap by connecting landlords and tenants one home at a time.

How does the Welcoming Landlord Program work?
Simply click here to advertise your rental. We are only considering self-contained rentals for this program, a not roommate situation. We will upload your listing to our Welcoming Landlord List every Wednesday.

What happens after I rent my unit?

Simply send an email to [email protected] and let us know your rental is no longer available. Your unit will be removed from our listing page the Wednesday after we receive your email.

If I list my rental on the Welcoming Landlord Housing List, do I have to take a tenant through Jewish Family Services?

Of course not. Our goal is to simply connect tenants and landlords, you are welcome to accept any tenant you choose.

What is reduced rent or fair market value?
According to the Government of Canada, Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (2023) the average rental for a:
    • Bachelor unit ranges from $1489 to $1805
    • One-bedroom unit ranges from $1696 to $2102
    • Two-bedroom unit ranges from $2181 to $2478
    • Three-bedroom unit ranges from $2306 to $2547

While it is up to landlords to set their rental price, we do encourage landlords to consider low and fair market rental prices when advertising through the Welcoming Landlord Program.

How will tenants have access to my housing information?

When individuals and families who have been in Canada less than five years complete an intake with Jewish Family Services (JFS) for housing support, we will offer them a link to the Welcoming Landlord Housing List.

Does Jewish Family Services screen the landlords, housing rentals, or tenants?

No, we do any screenings such as reference checks. Our goal is to simply connect landlords and tenants. JFS does not take any responsibility for landlord listing, housing rentals, or tenancies. We encourage landlords to do these checks independently.

Does Jewish Family Services take responsibility for landlords or tenants?
No. Our goal is to simply connect landlords and tenants. JFS does not take any responsibility for landlord listings, housing rentals, or tenancies.
