Join us every 2nd Monday of the month for Bring Your Own Book Club!

We won’t be picking a specific book each time, but rather discussing any book we’re currently reading or have read in the past. Everyone’s voice is welcome in our discussions. Whether you’re into thrillers, fantasy, memoirs, or anything in between, there’s room for everyone!

• Location: Mount Pleasant Library (1 Kingsway, Vancouver)
• Date: 2nd Monday of the month
• Time: 11 am – 1 pm
• Transportation: We provide convenient bus services for all our trips. Our buses are fully equipped to accommodate walkers and other mobility aids. Pick up will be at Marpole Neighborhood House (8585 Hudson St, Vancouver) at 10am, or meet us there at 11am.

Beverage, Light snack, and sandwiches will be provided. Registration is required.

• Living in Kerrisdale, Oakridge, Marpole, Dunbar & Southlands

Since then, what has come to be called “antisemitism” – a word coined by self-described Jew-haters – has transformed itself to suit the times. The question is, why? In response, Dr. Jay Eidelman explores current theories about why Jew-hatred persists and how it operates in popular culture.

We had so much fun with Dream Askew (a story of Queer Strife Amid the Collapse) that we invite you to join us again for another evening – this time focusing on a Jewish Fantasy of the Shtetl, Dream Apart by Ben Rosenbaum, a beautiful, quick-to-learn, community-based Tabletop Roleplaying Game, perfect for both newbies to TTRPGs and veteran players alike.

Our players will determine which story they want to tell, in either one or two groups, and be guided by a facilitator through the process of creating characters, learning the rules, and telling a story that touches your very soul. Costumes are highly encouraged, and don’t be surprised if the stories we tell reflect that!

Character sheets, pencils, and index cards will be provided. No game playing experience required.

Let’s share Shabbat together!

Seniors Sharing Shabbat is a once a month Shabbat meal delivery program generously supported by Herb and Barbara Silber. The vegetarian/parve meal will always have a main and a dessert included. You will also receive everything you may need to celebrate Shabbat at home: grape juice, candles and two challah rolls. Even though we are apart, we can all celebrate Shabbat together.

Registration is currently open, with limited availability.

Please note, to be eligible for this program, participants cannot be registered in another Shabbat meal program and must live in our delivery area.

With housing increasingly critical for many clients, JFS is exploring new avenues to maximize our support for housing-related challenges, spanning from finding accommodations to navigating landlord interactions.

This session centers on your experiences—what housing challenges you encounter, which forms of support have proven effective, what additional support you seek, and your innovative solutions.

Insights gathered will inform JFS’s strategic planning, ensuring our services align closely with community needs.
