This Passover, more than 1,300 people in our community were able to celebrate with warmth, comfort, and connection — all in ways that honored tradition and preserved dignity.
Thanks to a collective effort, individuals and families across our community had equal access to Kosher L'Pesach food and meaningful Seders:
- 380 households received Passover hampers filled with fresh produce and holiday staples, making it possible to prepare for the holiday at home.
- 297 people enjoyed a Seder-in-a-Box meal, delivered in partnership with Schara Tzedeck, allowing a full and festive holiday table for those unable to cook at home.
- 84 people joined communal Seders hosted by Congregation Beth Israel and others, coming together to share in tradition and togetherness.
- 45 households received a Seder Get-Together Grant, supporting shared celebrations between households.
This support meant more than food on the table — it meant honouring cherished traditions. One of this year’s Seder-in-a-Box recipients, shared:
“I wish to thank you and JFS for your continued support while I am facing constant health challenges and, at times during the month, food challenges. Your support, and the wonderful staff and volunteers who have delivered food have proven to be a God-send to me. Every bit has helped at this difficult time in my life.
I usually observe Passover with my Jewish friends or at one the synagogues but because of ongoing health issues, I was unable to observe Passover with anyone this year. I purchased a few items for myself for Passover but could not afford to purchase any Kosher meats, egg noodles for a kugel, etc. I am diabetic now and life has become more expensive because of the change in my dietary requirements. The food and meal you provided truly helped, Thank you.”
Stories like these reflect the deep impact of this work: ensuring everyone can celebrate with dignity, and joy — no matter their circumstances.
The Passover Campaign continues to be a reminder of what community can look like at its best. If you or someone you know still wants to provide support, the donation form remains open at jfsvancouver.ca/passover.
