Bill Lachman
Bill began his career as a professional Drummer/Percussionist in the US, which led him to becoming an entertainment lawyer in NY. He ultimately had an opportunity to move to Vancouver in 1986 to take over the family business, met his wife and has lived here ever since.
Bill has been on the boards of VTT and Temple Sholom, and has extensive experience in putting on big and small fundraisers. He has also just finished his time on the Board of the VGH Urology Center’s recent fundraising campaign. He is looking forward to bringing his fundraising experience and successes to support JFS.
Candice Stein Thal
Candice Thal was born in Cape Town, South Africa and was raised in Toronto before moving to Vancouver over 13 years ago with her husband, a baby and 2 dogs. Since then, she has had 2 more children and continues to be an active and dedicated member of Vancouver's Jewish Community.
Candice has volunteered in multiple capacities for numerous organizations, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver, Schara Tzedeck Synagogue, Vancouver Talmud Torah and Jewish Family Services.
Candice's commitment to JFS is unwavering as she serves on multiple committees, chaired 6 Innovators events and played a key role in the organizations branding of The Kitchen. Through her involvement, she has formed a deep connection with JFS, its mission, and the community it serves. Candice has a degree in marketing and worked for large corporations including Labatt Brewery and General Motors.
Alongside her husband Todd and their three children, Jackson, Layla and Noah, and their dog Disco, Candice shares her passion for giving back and helping those less fortunate.
Hal Oreck
Hal Oreck is Vancouver born and raised – other than a very important 7 years in Toronto where he met his wife Catherine. In his youth, Hal was very active at the JCC, Jewish summer camps and USY.
After 7 years in Toronto working at RBC, Hal attended law school and returned to Vancouver to practice law at Oreck Karby, Barristers & Solicitors where he is now the managing partner.
Outside of work, Hal spends most of his time with his family or on the golf course. He is a baseball coach and member of the Trout Lake Little League board of directors. Hal credits his desire to give back to the community to his parents, who set a very high bar by spending countless hours working at various positions, both volunteer and paid, within the Jewish and general community. He looks forward to collaborating with the current board members and bringing his legal and financial experience to the JFS.
